Does the word "Edgbaston" ring any bells?

We lost the toss and Gayle chose to bat
Shivy got lucky
Ponting had a tantrum
Benson retired
and a West Indian Aussie made us work damn hard.

Watson cried
Katich choked
and Mussey needed a defribrillator
Ritzy was disappointed
North was absent
and Bolly is yet to get his first test run.

Mitchy's got pies, but somehow got 5 as well
and Suly Benn packed us up and rolled us away

Then Chris Gayle danced
and Bravo flew like a plane
But the Pup's back in town
The Sunshine's gone
And Hads is King again

God damn we were lucky today, she says as memories of Edgbaston 2009 come flooding back ...

And so it's off to Perth for the third and final test - my home town, starts on my birthday; that's got to be good luck, right?

It maybe wasn't a match the half-arsed Aussie fans will relish, but it was truly a gem for the cricket fans out there. Who said Test cricket was dead?

Oh, it was Chris Gayle, wasn't it?

Hi Sid... I never had the feeling we could lose this, unlike in Edg, where we batted for our lives, IIRC (?) but it is annoying we let the victory slip away, mainly because our spinners were unlucky. Unluckiest guy of the test was sure Bolly though. I saw the summary now and... grahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I found his reaction absolutely understandable. The ump wanted to shove him something up the backside because Punter had annoyed the shit out of him with the two quick reviews... denying Bolly the lbw was a revenge of truly villainish format. Ice cold and evil to the bone. I think this is the moment one will remember (apart from the... well no actually not. I don't think that Gayle was remarkable enough... his 150 was somehow less amazing that the ton of Barath. Benn was more fascinating.)

Christopher, if there is no pressure at all on your back, simply because no one expects you to win, you can jump across the meadow like goat kids. That's what the Windies did. They played some happy passionate cricket and got rewarded. There is nothing surprising about it... the Aussies were under the pressure to aim at a clear victory like at the Gabba. Not within three days, but clear enough.

Now off to the city of no busses! I have a feeling we are going to see a Klint of some sort. :D

Shame on you, Christopher Poshin for not recognizing some good, tight bowling and committed batting when you see it. I am an Oz fan and I think the West Indies were great. If Chris Gayle could manage to play the patient game more often his test average would go up, up, up.

He was helped by some shoddy stuff from the Oz attack, but hopefully both teams will be at full-speed in Perth. It has made this series so much more interesting than I expected.

It is nice when Mitch sprinkles a fivefor over the top of the lemon meringue pies.

Gayle was a revelation, both as captain and batsman. Lou is spot on, if he was enodwed with more patience...But yes, what a match! what drama! who cares for the outcome?

Adelaide press conferences feat. rather longish statements by Mitch, Sulieman Benn, Brendan Nash, the two coaches and even the curator can be found at the

I'm not a fan of Gayle, partly because os his mouthing off against test cricket, but him and his team were did themselves so proud in Adelaide. No one can deny that. One more class bowler in the side and they would have won it, I think. And, dare I say it, they will have deserved it.

Som, you're absolutely right, it's one for cricket lovers everywhere and especially for fans of the longer form of the game.
