The Day the World Stopped Turning

On an emotive whim, many Australians will tell you that our greatest day of mourning is the anniversary of the day we lost the Ashes after 17 straight years in 2005. That day sucked. I cried.

True cricket fans, however, will always return to the 25th February.

On that day, in 2001, the world stopped turning, if only for a moment; birds stopped singing; dogs declined to bark; children stopped laughing; the wind refused to whistle through the parched trees of Terra Australis and every Australian who had ever so much as looked at a cricket bat bowed his head and let a tear roll down his cheek - for truly, the great man was gone.

God bless you, Don, and may you continue to rest in peace.

Sir Donald George Bradman
1908 - 2001

Very touching post and great pic.
Pitifully this was all before my time.

New Zealand getting played by Redbacks (and the whole minor rest)

Want to make a time machine with me so we can bring him back? I am serious...cricket still needs him.

NOOOO!!. I thought it was becuase I turned 21. Great, Bradman died on my birthday and I didn't even know. Shows what kind of Australian cricket fan I am. Can I claim mitigating circumstances? I lived on the other side of the world and didn't have a internet flatrate back than.
Doesn't sound to convincing to me,
I guess I will have to go home and burn my bat. I'm probably cursed anyway.

Schatzmeister, that would be depressing ... how can you ever celebrate another birthday. Right, we are officially moving your birthday to Feb 30th. This means you will only actually have a birthday every few years, which I feel is a just punishment for not knowing about this in the first place.

:-)
