Delaying the Inevitable or T2D3

A gallant, but probably always futile, fight back by the Aussies - lead by Captain and Pup, which makes a nice change, then supported fabulously by Little Stevie -  took them to 349, giving Pakistan 180 to chase. Now, there was a chance - with the way the batting has been on both sides - that if the bowlers pulled their fingers out, they might just give the Stanis a scare.

And maybe pull off a miracle.

But it is not to be, as Pakistan now need 40 runs to win with 2 days to spare and 7 wickets in hand. I think they might just do it.

I was probably clutching at straws, really, anyway.

But rest assured, dear readers, that we can blame Twatto. His dropped catch may have made a huge difference to the result. Actually, it probably wouldn't have but who doesn't love to lay blame on Twatto whenever possible?

Wait, don't bowl yet Hilfy - I need to find my earring ...

And more good news - it was Koertzen's last test. When the power went, I considered ringing Rudi and suggesting to him that he just call the match a draw, but then I figured he is so fucking blind he probably hadn't even noticed. So I didn't bother.

Sorry.

Well! As Koertzen owes Oz another 6 wickets (only counting those from the last year) Oz should comfortably seal victory tomorrow. So there is still hope... nah there isn't. Unfortunately Koertzen won't even think of returning what he stole. Pfffft. I feel generally pretty annoyed by the majority of the Oz players. That was just scheiße. India is the last chance to get back into the flow.

Cheers,

You had to do it didn't you? You just couldn't wait for me to take the p**s out of him could you? :( Not fair Widdy. What will I do with myself now?

Hey, you won - stop whinging.

We did try to give you a wee scare though, huh? A few more runs to play with (and a few less dropped catches) and who knows?

A few more Watsons and who knows?

Actually, scrap that idea.

Where are your lot off next? India?

...see what I get for trying to cheer her up everyone?

I say you stop playing cricket in England.

I think you're right, Purna. England just kills us. Although not so often at Headingley.

Stani, bless you for trying to cheer me up. I am actually quite pleased we took a handful more wickets, but the game was lost with the shit batting (and great bowling - sorry) on day one, wasn't it?

Yes, to India we go. This will be even tougher (sorry, but it will) and we are going in with morale in the toilet. Get arses kicked in this one and who knows how we'll perform come Ashes time.

Australia are good at bouncing back with gusto after a loss, though, so maybe things won't go so bad in India. She says.

Demonstrating the stubborn loyalty that has got me into trouble in the past, I'm going to publicly declare that I still like Watson. Which you should all be pleased about, because whenever I did that recently he proceeded to get out or drop a catch. He is no doubt tripping over a cricket ball or walking through a glass door as I type.

Alternatively, resurrecting an old theory (Purn might remember this one) the deal he did with the devil to get his fitness restored is back-firing in the way such things do. Perhaps the team needs a few exorcisms and some penance and all will be right again.

Anyway, Sid, didn't Punter put us in to bowl some time in the last couple of years, it was a complete disaster and we all said "well, he'll never do that again." I'd search the archives but searching for Punter and bad decisions would bring up a few too many options. Also, in a very bad sign for his career, even Fox Sports is making fun of him: this article came through in my feed with the tag 'Tosser Ponting takes the blame.'

The 'stani bowling was great, as was the subsequent drama on both sides, and to be completely honest, I really enjoyed it. Devastated that we lost and would like us to get back to ruling the world, but I do love Test cricket!

I'm sure he has done it some time in the past to end in great disaster. Sydney obviously comes to mind - we didn't lose in the end but a)we should have and b)it was in no way due to Punter that we didn't.

I'm curious now - off for a hunt.

I think you're all a bit tough on Watto, he is a very very good player but that doesn't make him a Great player. Only the greats can do 50 runs and 5 wickets in an innings with any regularity at all.
And there's an old saying about the question of batting or bowling first.
"think about bowling, think about it again, then BAT!"
I heard it from Ian Chappell, and he got it from older blokes than him.
Out guessing the weather is a hopeless task if you have to try to do it often.

Shaen, I know I'm a bit tough on Watto. But I'm tough on everyone, it's what I do.

I do actually think he's a good batsman.

He may need a haircut.
