In fact it was crap.
All out for 88.
Ponting won the toss and elected to bat. At Headingley. Don't even get me bloody started.
I have to quote @bettiwettiwoo's comment on Twitter that Australia have now put the pressure on Pakistan to come up with all new and creative ways to lose a test.
But in all fairness, you have to credit the Pakistani bowlers - they sure stunned us today.

Ricky makes me violent.
Haven't seen the footage, but the radio commentators (when they weren't chuckling at what was happening) made it sound like a lot of our batsmen were falling over and playing round their pads to midwicket. Not a good idea against the swinging ball, is it? That may not kill us in the next Ashes, as the Poms generally need conditions like today to make the ball hoof, but it's worrying that we don't seem able to adapt to conditions.
Adrian, BBC radio 5 hasn't reported so much on an Aussie cricket match since last summer - I can only imagine what other radio stations were making it sound like!
Thanks Sid ;)
Did you enjoy the bowling though Sid? Look at it like this, it's like seeing a pretty looking lady, you can say she's pretty but it doesn't mean you enjoy running out your own batsman.
Surely watching Asif in the balls leading up to and including Ponting's dismissal, must have brought a little smile to your face?
We're just getting you fired up for the English...just highlighting all your mistakes now so you can have them nicely ironed out for Straussy and co. It has taken us 14 games but I guess it's better late than never.
Seriously, Aussie cricket is confusing me just so much these days, what's up with them?
One day they're so brilliant and the other they just collapse like a sack of potatoes.
Any explanations?
Yeah, they did good Stani. Ain't no denying it. You've got some class bowlers there.
Sunny, our batting has been a bit iffy for a while but I can't explain it. Individually, we have some of the best batsmen in the world in that line up but they just can't seem to pull it together as a team. Plus add class Stani bowling and headingley with the pitch that makes things move unpredictably and ... well ... and we should have bowled first.
But that doesn't explain everything, also we were just plain bad while Pakistan was so so good. No getting past that.
Cheer up Siddy widdy! It's not like its the Ashes! Remember, we've had 13 servings of this against you in a row.
I also think you need to let go of Bollinger.
'It sound like a lot of our batsmen were falling over and playing round their pads to midwicket.'
Yes, they were, they ain't smart that's for sure but the bowling was really something else. Swinging both ways and seam movement.
I'm so glad Ricky batted as I knew our bowlers would have pissed those conditions into the wind. And for a lover of cricket, you want to watch high class bowling when you can.
Once an Asif fan, always an Asif fan even when he's making the Aus batsmen look like flat trackers.
Aamer is rapidly becoming just about my favourite young bowler going as well.
One other thing.
The tour's not going well is it?
Oh Lou!!!
...now why hasn't CA put your name forward for the ICC top job?
Don't be too down Sid, you should be thankful it wasn't Finn and Broad with their public school accents taking the wickets. That would have been embarrassing for both of us. Watching Aamer, Gul and especially Asif bowl like they did was, well, effing orgasmic (to quote one of my lecturers). Quite a few other internet Aussies I know were applauding the Pakistanis for their efforts. Along with the compulsory Twatto abuse.
Lou, absolutely right. Nothing away from the Pak bowling attack, which has deserved better against us for a while now. Just wish I'd gone to Leeds to see it.
Half tracker,
And what was you doing when your lecturer was saying that?
Please forward me the name of the educational institute and the subject studied. Cheers
Haha you won't like it, Stani. It was a 60 something Italian born lecturer getting excited about this model internal combustion engine he had built and brought in to show us.
The boys recovering alright after that shocker.
The toss is interesting, the '97, '01 and '09 Tests at Headingly have all suggested bowl first.
In 97 we won the toss and bowled first, and won.
In 2001 we chose to bat under Gillys captaincy and lost...although that innings of Punter's elevated his awesomeness!
In 2009 England batted first and lost.
So, history indicates Australia to bowl first at Headingly. But NO ONE expected those conditions, I haven't any of the commentators boast about calling those conditions. We also had poor discipline. Simple, and Pakistan bowled WITH discipline.
@Stani, don't you call me Siddy Widdy! But, I wrote a post just for you.
@Lou, totally with you on Aamer - no need to write that name down, people, I suspect we'll be hearing much more of it in the years to come. And no, it's really not going well at all.
@HT - you said it. If that were England, I would quite seriously be putting the pressure to move back to Oz. I don't think I could take it here.
P.S. @ everyone - I miss My Lord.
Just in case you were wondering.
Thanks Siddy Widdy.
Half-tracker,
Like? I was only concerned about your well-being, of course.
Stani, thanks for the concer, it was a harrowing experience.
Sid, I'm sure the Hauritzer misses you too. It can get real lonely in Travel Lodges in Leeds.
