T1D4 or The Panto Ends

Pakistan were set 440 to win
Tough, but they started damn strong;
They lost only one wicket for 114,
now that is just plain wrong.

Then day four dawned, the sun in the sky
and Captain Punter took a chance;
Lord Marcus North got his hands on the ball
and lead the Stanis a merry dance.

Hilfy did get things rolling
then he handed over to the Warrior's skipper;
The man helped himself to six wickets
and sorted the opposition out a ripper.

And so it was over, test one was done
and though it could have gone either way,
The Aussie bowlers put the result out of doubt
and won by a mile on the day.

So, we won the first test by 150 runs. It was pretty interesting, really. If you're a neutral, that is. It was not obviously going either way until that last day.

The bad news of the day is that Hilfy might be injured again, although Ian assures me it is nothing. I still think it's time we put him to bed and left him there until it's Ashes time.

Every time Bolly and Mitch bowl an over of pies, they should be made to carry Ben Hilfenhaus around to put him in his position on the field especially if it's to the end of his run-up, make sure he is comfy, then run off to wherever Punter has banished them.

It would be nice for him, it means he could bowl for longer and hopefully those two would get the idea through their thick skulls that short, wide shite and half-volleys on the legs just won't do.

Congrats to your lot, Sid.
The Stanis were their crappy self in batting as usual.

And what are people now thinking about North?

The poet at work. Summed it all up.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Classic Lou.

I never expected Pakistan to surprise us with a win, 1 wicket was all that was needed in the first session, but no one expected Marcus to do what he did. Put him back on the map but still needs to perform with the bat with Steven Smith beginning his dogs work as the spinner.

The only risk we could see with Hilfy is that he rests up for the 2nd Test and Peter George debuts. That's it I would imagine. That type of injury he suffered would probably cause swelling around the shoulder. Should have let it go for four.

Sorry for saving North's career Sid. I'm afraid he's going to get picked for quite some time now when he was on the verge of being dropped.

He should thank us for making him an all-rounder. Years of coaching couldn't give him that.

Why does everyone think I want North dropped? I grudgingly conceded a couple of posts ago that maybe if he doesn't pick someone else should be given a chance, but I am a big fan of North (hence Lord Marcus - anyone remember that?) and have been hoping he'll get his act together for a while.

Sadly, Ian is right - it's his batting that needs to pick up. No offense Stani, but 6 wickets against Pakistani batsmen isn't exactly a career saver. He did have a better second innings with the bat, fortunately, but he needs to get even better and keep it up. I think he'll play in the Ashes, but if he doesn't kick arse there we may see someone else get a chance (Ferguson? White?).

Fergal if fit but Cam White isn't too far off returning to the side, but Usman Khawaja is very much at the forefront too. Marcus can do it thought...with the bat. The ball, well that was just special.

North can do it; it's less than a year ago that he was helping us save face at Edgbaston and just over a year ago that he got 120 odd at Cardiff - but everyone seems to have forgotten that.

In fact didn't he get a century at Headingley as well?

...so tell us again, why is it that you want North dropped Sid?

I think it's time for Marcus and a certain Mr Swann to exchange emails, Sid.

Spot on Kirby, yeah Headingly. Bring on 2nd Test, Marcus may deliver another century.

I don't ever remember you wanting him to be dropped, he's a WA boy. But I think it was just concern over his inconsistency, perhaps that's what the guys are referring to.

hhhmmm ... interesting idea, Adrian ...

Stani, your horoscope today speaks of excessive violence coming your way :-)

...you couldn't Sid, I'm just too innocent :)
