T20 Finals Day

Can I just say, for the record, that I love T20 finals day? We even went once. Lancashire lost the first semi and we were on the train home in no time, so it was a bit of a bust. That was the day I started the standing ovation for Dominic Cork and he raised his bat to me. It was very cool.

Here he is with Marcus Trescothick and Mike Atherton while Collingwood does the toss.

And I still love Dommy, even if he no longer plays for Lancs, so I am really pleased that Hampshire won yesterday. Even if Cork had to take out Keiron Pollard to do it.

Be afraid, Corky, be very afraid. Pollard does not look best pleased.

And I hope, I really hope that Dan Christian is extremely intelligent. I hope, I really hope, that he is a superb cricketer with a glittering career ahead ...

... because he is a very unattractive man.

Sid, Fox Sports' headline for the while thing was: "Hampshire win Friends Provident t20 despite Dan Christian's ignorance." So they've gone for the Aussie angle on the story, they've just bagged him out. What is the world coming to??

I think it should've said 'despite Trescothick not realising they could've run Dan Christian out.'

Anyway, either way, not a huge argument for Dan's intelligence. Unless it was a cunning plan to confuse everyone if someone did get out.

How about "Somerset might have won if Trescothick had chosen to bowl when he won the toss"? With the weather like that, at best the ball was going to get wet and heavy; at worst there would be the crap that is D/L in T20 - why did he bat?

Becuase he is a control freak and wanted to do it all himself. I laughed when he got out.

Please post a link - I have to know what they thought was wrong with Christian last night. He wasn't outstanding, but he wasn't bad either. Certainly not the name I would have picked out of the team to bag on.

How about Somerset might have won if Kiewetter could throw at all?

Christian not being a looker means he'd fit right into the test team. Bunch of robber's dogs to a man.

Except Kat and MJ.

Hey hey girls... I think a lot of players (coughcoughbravocoughcough) can take a leaf out of Christian's book in terms of application and determination, and what has happened to the Wiradjuri bandwagon? He might not be good enough for the Oz side... no one who gets selected simply on grounds of his origin probably is... but he fights like a lion and has done well for Hants, that's why they kept picking him; he hasn't quite reached the class of Cos at Glam but he has been a valuable asset and I'm confident he will continue to improve. It takes a long while until he starts to grow on you but abandoning him when he comes good is the wrong way.

More DC praise over at my place...
Finals Day: Mission Impossible Accomplished.

Cheers,
Wes

Yeah be a bit more kind to DC, Sid. Yes he's a clutz but he had two black eyes, a nearly broken nose and a wrecked hamstring but still he gave everything he had (including plenty of blood on the thursday). No he's not the brightest, and no he doesn't have enviable looks (I called him a melon head a few weeks ago, not to his face though), but his post match interview revealed something to me - he has personality! battered, bruised, but completely ecstatic.

Apparently, as he had a runner but ran anyway, he was technically out of his crease and could've been run out. The story's here.

While you're there, there's another story in the cricket section: "Australia Test captain Ricky Ponting says spinner Nathan Hauritz is a "lock" for the coming tour of India and the Ashes series."

"what has happened to the Wiradjuri bandwagon?"

Which part of "certainly not the name I would have picked out of the team to bag on" did you not understand, exactly?

@Lou - yes, I saw that article. I shall comment when I have retrieved my wee pussy cats from the cattery. And thanks for the link.

@HT and Wes - I like DC, which is why I was defending him when Lou said the Fox Sports article had blamed him. See above comment.

He is ugly, though.
