Operation Can't Bat, Can't Bowl, Oh My God this is Humiliating - Day 2

So, you've just become the least successful Australian Ashes captain ever, have you?

Now it's important you control your temper!

An information leaflet with a few ideas

Included inside are such tips as:
  • Know how to set your field
  • Choose bowlers that can actually bowl
  • Learn how to inspire your team
  • Don't yell at others when things don't go your way

and, most helpfully:
  • Try to avoid becoming the least successful Australia Ashes captain ever

I'm sure Ponting will find this leaflet useful.

Leaflet kindly produced by Ponting Pisstake Productions.

I hope this gets to him in express post. :P

Some bowlers are doing okay. Siddle has two wickets and two catches. And Johnson almost got three wickets (but the stupid umpire changed his mind, grrr!).

Hilfy should be bowling better- a bit of swing, y'know.

I think Punter would find this leaflet immensely useful. Too bad that between all the umpteen coaches of various kinds, gurus, pundits, centres of excellence, and Cricket Australia nobody thought of giving him these fundamental instructions before the Ashes started. The Ashes in 2005.

Why wasn't Siddle fined too? Disgraceful behaviour.

Actually the bowling was pretty good today and even the spinner got decent fields. They had a plan when they came out. But three or so unlucky situations/decisions made the wheels come off. I felt embarrassed for Ponting

Yeah, the bowling did make a minor comeback today, I know. But I've already changed the operation's name once, I can't do it again. Stani is easily confused :-)

I have to say I am now getting a bit worried that Punter really will go. It's not that I think he is a super captain or anything - he isn't - but I just can't think of anyone better.

Maybe they need to sack everyone and start again from the ground up. If that happens, I vote Ferguson or White make the team and become captains. Bring in O'Keefe and Mitchell Marsh as well.

By Ashes 2015, they'll be world beaters.

My money's on Haddin taking over at the end of the series, unless Clarke does something extraordinary with the bat before it's all over. Aside from the 80 in Adelaide, where (as jrod pointed out) he got out shortly before stumps - again - and so missed out on what should have been a defining innings, he hasn't shown up this series. The brouhaha about his unpopularity within the team before the Tests was worrying, but his response to it has been feeble.

What the hell's going on?

Think of it this way...it can't possibly get any worse, can it?

Oh God. 1/95 to 6/169. Fuck.

Bloody hell, they're a shower, an absolute shower.

When was the last time we had a middle order?

Have we ever had a middle order?

What is a middle order anyway?

Baiju Nair said...

@Lou,

There was once a middle order that read:-

M.Waugh
S.Waugh
Martyn
Gilchrist

Could do well with a couple of them I assume.... :)

Sidthegnomenator said...

That's a middle order to break a wee Aussie girl's heart today, Baiju ...

@Adrian - the captain debate has been raging. Personally, I think Punter should be allowed to at least finish this series.

And beyond? I'd like him to stay, of only because I can't imagine Clarke being any better and who else?

General money seems to be on Watson in the Twitter world - what do you all think of that?
