Remember when we really didn’t give a shit about T20 and the Ashes was the most important thing ever?
Can we go back there, please? This crap and the cutting of Katich (despite racking up the most … yeah, you know it all by now) just feels like Cricket Australia’s line of thinking is “We’ve lost the Ashes, we’re not that good at test cricket anymore: instead of trying to improve and get the Ashes back why don’t we just forget about it and focus on our own little version of the IPL? Hey! We can even pay the players less if they don’t sign up for the Big Bash. That’ll fuck test cricket right up.”Congratulations England. You have just won the Ashes for the next twenty years.
Cricket Australia really are bastards, aren’t they (or is it just me)?

By 2031, the Ashes will be decided by one test match which will be carefully squeezed in between a 73-match T20 series.
I'm excited already.
This sort of rubbish will happen in every country, especially the poor test nations (West Indies and New Zealand, i'm looking at you).
This was slight hyperbole, I know, but I was pretty annoyed when I wrote it. The cricket world is definitely veering toward the shortest version of the game and I find it really depressing. It just goes to show that sport is all wrapped up in money.
I vaguely remember reading a few weeks back that CA were disappointed that big name former internationals, like Gilchrist, did not want to get involved in the new look Big Bash. Clearly they are hoping to create something akin to the IPL.
